77th Republic Day celebrated by Royal Global University
Universities must promote and protect Constitutional values: RGU VC on Republic Day
GUWAHATI, January 26, 2026: As the nation commemorates its 77th Republic Day, signifying the day India’s Constitution was enacted, The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) joined in the celebration today, witnessing active participation from students, faculty, and administrative staff.
The programme began with the unfurling of the National Flag at 8:55 am led by the Chancellor, Dr. A.K. Pansari, Pro Chancellor Shri A.K. Modi, Vice Chancellor Prof. A.K. Buragohain, along with the guest of the ceremony and noted philanthropist Shri Kamal Kumar Jain. This was followed by the rendition of the National Anthem and the march-past parade, comprising NCC cadets and NSS volunteers of RGU.
Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof. A.K. Buragohain highlighted the historical and constitutional significance of the Republic Day. He explained that January 26 was chosen to honour the declaration of Purna Swaraj made at the Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress in 1930. He reflected on the adoption of the Constitution on 26th January 1950, which established India as a sovereign, democratic republic committed to the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
Emphasising the role of educational institutions, Prof. Buragohain stated, “We have to live up to each one of the Constitutional values, more so in a university where we have a basic responsibility to promote and protect these constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.” He described the Constitution of India as a robust and vibrant document, capable of adapting to changing times while preserving its core principles.
The celebration also featured patriotic song performances by faculty members, adding cultural vibrancy to the event. The wholehearted participation of students and staff reinforced the spirit of unity in diversity and underscored the enduring importance of Republic Day.
